Detailed Review for Tikona Broadband 2 MBps plan

Honest Review for Tikona Broadband by one of the happy customer:-

I’m a twenty seven year old software engineer who lives in Ghatkopar East. My internet requirements vary from needing high speed internet at home for streaming videos with my family, to browsing the web. While I’m not into very advanced gaming or designing, I do need a good reliable internet connection at home, like most of us. Here’s my review for Tikona internet plan:

How I discovered Tikona Broadband connection:-

When I moved here, I began asking neighbors about the various broadband providers in Ghatkopar and several neighbors of mine were subscribing to Tikona Broadband despite MTNL & many local internet service providers being available in the vicinity. Instantly, my interest was aroused. I decided to do some further research myself, and read a Tikona Broadband Review online to satisfy my curiosity. When I had seen enough, I got in touch with them after my next door neighbor shared his positive Tikona review with me.

I had a local internet provider prior to this and quite was unpredictable in terms of a steady connection. When it came to maintenance & service requests, I had quite a poor experience. I also realized that I ended up with pretty heavy usage every month. Most unlimited broadband plan tend to have low speeds or a fair usage policy (FUP) that downgrades the speed to just 512 kbps or 256 kbps which is insufficient for streaming videos online or doing anything productive, really. A slow internet connection can be quite a buzzkill as the videos begin to buffer and the whole experience is jarred by this.

Tikona Broadband 2 MBps Plan:-

After browsing through their plans, I decided to go for the Tikona Broadband 2 MBps Plan that was best suited for my needs – the 2 mbps plan with 10 GB download limit. On average, I consume about 8-10 GB every month while watching YouTube videos & surfing every month so this plan is perfect for me! The installation was relatively hassle free as the infrastructure was already in place & within a day, my new internet connection was up & running.

Installation of Tikona Connection:-

A rooftop router and an internal router was installed. The rooftop router is placed on the terrace and a cable is connected from it to the one at my house. A Wi-fi router is also provided which enables me to make my house a wireless internet space as well as get a direct connection for my laptop and mobile devices. Up to 8 devices can be connected so the wireless internet can be connected to a phone, a tablet or any device that requires an internet connection.

Tikona Broadband Speed Test Review:-

I also took the Tikona speed test to check if the speed was actually what they promised or not. I recommend that you keep taking the speed test from time to time to make sure you are getting the internet speed that is promised.

The final subscription amount for this plan was Rs. 1725, which works out to be less than Rs 600 per month. With my earlier broadband provider, not only was I paying around Rs. 800 per month but the download limit was only 8 GB per month & every time I exceeded that, my speed would get downgraded.

Final comments on Tikona Digital Networks:-

After using Tikona’s broadband services for over a year now and I am quite satisfied with their customer support and overall service. As mentioned earlier, I consume 8-9 GB per month with is sufficient for me. Haven’t faced any major downtime in connection or internet speed, as I use to get earlier with my private internet service provider so overall, a thumbs up from another happy customer!

Valuable Tikona Review for 4 Mbps Broadband Plan & Tikona Speed Test

As an IT project manager who works & resides in Vashi, I need high speed internet pretty much all day long. After long hours at the office, I like to come home and watch YouTube videos to unwind and entertain. Over the weekends, I catch up on my favorite TV shows and binge watch movies. So that’s the extent of my internet usage at home. While at office there’s a pretty fast broadband connection, when I’m occasionally working from home, thanks to slow internet connection I have a hard time getting anything work done.

The slow internet at my house is very frustrating as it can be pretty annoying when you’ve come home from a long day at work & all you want to do is catch the latest Game of Thrones episode but thanks to a slow internet connection, the episode keeps buffering endlessly. Finally I decided to put my foot down and look for a new internet service provider and I began talking to my friends & asking around in my neighborhood about some local service providers. That’s when a friend of mine recommended Tikona Broadband, a Mumbai-based internet service provider that has some good broadband plans on offer at good rates.

On an average, I consume about 30 GB every month. In addition to my entertainment needs, I also exchange several emails on my laptop a lot and I need an internet connection that is fast. As per my needs, I selected the Tikona 4 Mbps Plan after browsing through the various plans they have on offer. The 4 mbps plan costs a little more than 2000 for 3 months & I decided to give it a shot.

When I got in touch with them, I learnt that several residents of my building already subscribe to them & the infrastructure is already set up. The installation was relatively hassle free as the infrastructure was already in place & within a day, my new internet connection was up & running.

A rooftop router and an internal router was installed within a day and my connection was up and running in no time. The rooftop router is placed on the terrace and a cable is connected from it to the one at my house. A Wi-fi router is also provided which lets me make my house a wireless internet space as well as get a direct connection for my laptop. Up to 8 devices can be connected so the wireless internet can be connected to a phone, a tablet or any device that requires an internet connection. Overall, after using for about a month, I had no complaints.

Being familiar with IT since I am from a computer science background, I am aware of the free tools available online for speed tests. Hence, on regular basis I use to monitor the speed and perform speed test. I have recorded a video for one of the speed test that I had performed which I would like to share with all. I was happy to get the speed that I was paying for.

With 4 mbps download speed & with 30 GB download limit, even if I watch videos a lot or stream TV shows like I usually do, there is no lag or buffering. The playback is seamless and doesn’t hang like it used to with my erstwhile connection.

Having used their services for the last 5 months, I would like to share my honest Tikona Broadband Review. I am quite happy with their services and would like to continue with them. I am satisfied with the internet speed I am getting and also with their customer support. Below you can view my overall ratings for my Tikona review.

Installation Services: 8/10
Speed: 8/10
Connectivity: 7/10
Customer Service: 6/10
Equipment: 7/10 (Ingenious)
Overall Rating: 7/10
Would I Recommend Tikona? YES.

Choose Tikona as Your Internet Service Provider

Over the past two decades my family has used several internet service providers, often to great disappointment. During that time, we have also shifted residence, adding to the number of ISPs that we have experimented with. This probably puts me in a good position to offer some advice. We have used Tikona’s service in both locations, in Mumbai, as well as in Thane. We can say that we are now settled with a regular service provider, as the Tikona connection has been going strong for around 2 years.

Installation:

Tikona gave us a wireless router and installed it at the rooftop. The router received signals from the company’s tower. An Ethernet cable connected the router to our home PC and TIkona provided both the router and cable. The installation got off to a good start, as they did not charge us for extra wiring, despite the fact that our layout required a greater length of cable.

The router was installed by the technician on the rooftop. He seemed quite knowledgeable and helpful, also ensuring that the router was position in the best sheltered location for protection from harsh winds and heavy rains.

The Ethernet cable connected the router to a small power box and then to the Power over Ethernet (POE) socket. A separate Local Area Network (LAN) socket is connected to our PC with a LAN cable.

Service

While using the internet, we found the speed excellent. Surfing over the web and streaming videos became seamless. With Tikona, even my parents started watching videos online, which they did not have the patience to do before because of long buffer time.

So far, I have also been completely satisfied, if not impressed with the quality of customer care. The engineers of the company are a bank of knowledge. They assist in quickly resolving any issue.

We have noticed that the service and network from the company have improved over time. Now, two years later, it is much better than it was during the initial times. The enhanced services offer smooth connectivity.

About Tikona

If you are interested in Tikona, then here are some details regarding the company and its plans.

Tikona has been offering high-speed internet services to homes and small offices since 2008. It serves over 2.75 lakh customers across 25 cities of the country.  It has a pan-India Class-A license issued by the Ministry of Communications of the Central Government. It has bagged Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) 4G spectrum in 5 circles of the country.

Tikona offers 15 GB of data with a speed of 4 Mbps at INR 650 per month. Another plan offers speeds as high as 10 Mbps, with 20 GB data at INR 799. For using 50 GB data at 4 Mbps, you will have to pay INR 950. There are many more plans available with Tikona, so browse through their site and choose one that best suits your needs.

Choose the Best ISP

Choosing the best Internet Service Provider (ISP) is very important. To this end, you should check all the details of the different plans offered by the many service providers.

As an engineering student, I use the internet a lot and need a reliable highspeed connection. For this reason, I have studied different plans from a number of companies to identify the best ones.

Some of the plans offered by a few major companies are as follows:

  • ISP #1:

This ISP offers plans that are categorized as fast, faster and fastest. The three plans offer speeds of 1 Mbps, 2 Mbps and 4 Mbps respectively. The speeds, however, vary depending upon the area in which you live. Once you cross the data usage limit in the plan, the company will drop your speed to 512 kbps. It charges a non-refundable amount of INR 600 for router and modem installation.

  • ISP #2:

This ISP offers the lowest plan at INR 80. It gives a 2 Mbps speed at this rate. However, the speed is available only till downloads of 200 MB. In another plan, the company offers a speed of 5 Mbps at INR 1200. This plan looks attractive, but, it has its drawbacks. After you have used 5 GB, the speed will be reduced to just 256 kbps. Other plans also have their speeds reduced to 512 kbps once the usage limit is exceeded. Additionally, the company charges INR 1100 as registration and installation fees.

  • ISP #3:

This ISP enjoys wide coverage, offering its services even in the most remote areas. However, the service is currently only offered for home use. The plans of this company are very expensive, with a security deposit as high as INR 4000 and installation charges of around INR1500. The cost of plans is also high, with the starting range being INR 2000 for a speed of just 1 Mbps. The maximum speed offered by the company is 4 Mbps.

  • Tikona Digital Networks:

Tikona internet plans offer high-speed connections at affordable rates. You will be charged INR 650 for 15 GB data at a speed of 4 Mbps. By paying just INR 150 extra, you will be able to increase your data limit by two times to 30 GB. One of its plans offers speeds as high as 10 Mbps at just INR 799, with a data limit of 20 GB. You can conduct a Tikona speed test to identify the actual speed.

As per my analysis, Tikona is the ideal ISP, with the best plans for everyone. It offers its services in 25 cities across the country. Subscribers of Tikona are delighted with the service, a fact that is apparent if you look through the Tikona review section.

Tikona’s 4G: A Robust Business Strategy

Tikona Digital Networks is one of the leading broadband service providers in India. The company announced the roll out of its 4G home broadband service in Varanasi during September end.

Service in Varanasi

Tikona provides its ‘Zabbardus’ service in Durgakund, Sigra, Nadesar, Paharia, Kamaksha, and Gadholiya areas of Varanasi. Consumers can enjoy a high speed of 6 Mbps at just INR 950 per month with a data cap of 50 GB. Users who have higher data requirements can opt for Zabbardus 10 Mbps “flexi usage plan” at INR 3999 which has flexible validities and usage limits depending upon the user’s requirement. The user can also extend the validity as per his needs.

Founder, Managing Director (MD), and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tikona, Prakash Bajpai, revealed that the company launched its first 4G service in the city of Varanasi. It will soon roll out the service in other cities, as well. Bajpai is sure that users in Varanasi will enjoy the best possible experience, when using their home broadband services for multiple purposes.

Tikona’s 4G plans

Tikona is one of the biggest companies to focus on indoor home broadband services, since its inception. It is also one of a kind because all other operators are focusing on outdoor broadband services. Additionally, Tikona is working to provide complete coverage to all the cities in its five telecom circles and will bring nearby villages under its coverage, as well.

Tikona had bagged 4G spectrum license in 5 circles in 2010. These include Rajasthan, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh (East), and Uttar Pradesh (West). The company is planning to replicate its Varanasi model in these areas and is gearing up to launch its commercial 4G services by the end of this year.

“Tikona has perfected a technology that is wireless in the last mile, but provides wireline technology. We have created a cost structure that is 1/10th of a wireline company’s costs, in terms of deployment, and the focus is on providing Indian innovation to meet the problems of the Indian broadband industry”, Bajpai said.

Tikona’s 4G strategy is different from other telecom operators. The company is aggregating fiber from operators like RailTel, Vodafone, Airtel, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), among others. Unlike others, Tikona simply needs to focus on offering broadband connectivity for homes and offices to serve the ever-increasing demand. The company believes internet is the prime source of content and hence it does not feel the need to build a content ecosystem. The growth of internet and smart phones will itself leverage the usage and data consumption, and thus, the profits for the company.

With its launch of 4G services by the first quarter of calendar year 2016, Tikona plans to approach 50% market share and 70% traffic share in cities for home broadband services. Industry experts are highly optimistic about the endeavor and expect the company to grow considerably in the reminings years of the decade.

Wireless Broadband: The Ideal Internet Service

Broadband has revolutionized business and transformed life in India. Broadband services may be delivered via access networks such as Cable Internet, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), or Wireless. Of all these methods, wireless broadband is rapidly emerging as the most popular among the users.

Growth of Wireless Broadband

Wireless broadband service was first introduced to customers with 3G technology. It provided users with bandwidth speeds of nearly 10 Mbps. After this, 4G with WiMax technology entered the market, offering speeds of over 30 Mbps. The latest technology being adopted by many developed and developing countries is Long Term Evolution (LTE). It is said to be a game changer as it provides speeds up to 100Mbps.

Wireless broadband comes in two types. Fixed wireless is mainly found in companies, while mobile wireless is primarily employed for personal use. Over the past few years, wireless broadband internet has been the fastest growing segment in the telecom sector. The number of subscribers in developing countries in 2011 was 472 million, a figure that has risen to 1.16 billion in 2015. It is estimated that worldwide wireless broadband connections will reach 6.5 billion in the next three years.

Benefits of Wireless Broadband

Wireless broadband is better than other traditional services. It has a wider reach and may be easily accessed by users. Unlike other methods, companies do not have to invest much to roll out wireless broadband internet services.

For customers too, the service is beneficial. Wireless broadband offers varied customized tariff options. Data roaming features improve accessibility of the service to consumers. Companies also get many suitable options for their workplace. One huge advantage of wireless networks over traditional wired networks is the obvious absence of wires. This eliminates unnecessary clutter, makes it easier to keep your office space neat and clean, while the inherent maintenance problems associated with physical wires are eliminated instantly.

Tikona Digital Networks

Tikona Digital Networks is one of the leading companies in the wireless broadband sector. Tikona is striving to offer world-class wireless broadband services to both home as well as office users. It serves 2.75 lakh customers across 25 cities in the country. The company is also building a framework so that global internet service providers may deliver best services to their customers.

Tikona offers high-speed connections at affordable rates. For instance, a user can enjoy a 4 Mbps data connection at just INR 600 per month. Users on this plan can use up to 15 GB of data, with the data limit being doubled upon payment of just INR 150 more.

The growth in internet usage will only boost wireless broadband services. New applications, cloud services, interactive sessions, and social media, among other technological innovations that are dependent on high speed internet will continue to expand the scope of wireless broadband. Tikona’s wireless broadband services are quickly emerging as some of the most competitive, with attractive offers, seamless service and high-speed connections drawing more users.

The Growth of Tikona Digital Networks

Tikona Digital Networks, launched in 2008, has been a popular name and is deploying broadband services in 25 cities across India.

Growth story of Tikona Digital Networks

During the company’s launch, the global economic environment was unstable. However, Tikona managed to raise funds amounting to $110 million from international companies like Goldman Sachs, Everstone, and Oak Investments. During that time, 4G was non-existent; teledensity was 80%, while broadband penetration was only 1%. When other companies were looking for voice spectrum, Tikona opted for wireless broadband. With wireless and 4G coming to India, the potential of broadband has increased substantially.

Tikona established its business on a free-for-all spectrum. It offers plans with speeds of up to 4 Mbps. As a result, it has lightened its risks by earning profits from the unlicensed spectrum.

Tikona has its headquarters in Bhandup, Mumbai. It acquired HCL Infinet, a networking services company, in 2011. Subsequently, Tikona got some bigwigs as customers like HDFC, Cipla, IndiGo, and Mahindra. The price Tikona bid for 4G was six times lesser than what other companies bid for 3G. The circles acquired by the company will cover 30% of the population.

Current scenario, Tikona Digital Networks

At present, Tikona has 2.5 lakh customers spread out in 25 cities. This consists of 12,000 SMEs and 1,000 large corporations. It has also acquired 4G licenses and spectrum in five states. This presents a huge market for the company.

The average revenue of the company per user is INR 600. The company reached the profits in its third year itself whereas other broadband companies generally take 12-14 years for leveling out.

Broadband is distinct from voice technology. It needs Information Technology (IT) support round the clock to solve any problems. Tikona has a wide experience in IT services. It is all set to launch its 4G services next year. The prices of 4G will be lower than 3G because of lower spectrum rates. Only pricing and customer experience will help any operator to succeed in 4G. Tikona has an edge over other companies due to its wide experience in dealing with broadband customers. Tikona is expected to exploit this opportunity to the fullest and emerge a winner in this field as well.

Growing Broadband Users in India

The internet has evolved phenomenally in the recent years. It has gained additional popularity in India in the past few months. Some of the recent research results show that the number of broadband users in the country has been increasing rapidly.

Total number of users

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has noted that there has been an increase of 3.71% in the number of broadband users in one month. The number of users in May 2015 was 104.96 million and in June 2015 it increased to 108.85 million.

In February 2015, there were 97.37 million subscribers which increased by 1.88% to 99.2 million subscribers in March 2015. In May 2015, broadband users in the country crossed the 100 million mark for the first time. The number of users is increasing by 2% every month.

Increase in varied segments

Out of the total number of subscribers in June 2015, 15.70 million use wired broadband services while 0.45 million people use fixed wireless services. Wi-Fi and associated services are considered as fixed wireless services. The remaining majority 92.70 million users use the most popular service which is mobile broadband. The same subscribers in May 2015 numbered 15.56 million, 0.44 million and 88.96 million, respectively. This means that there has been an increase of 0.90% in the number of wired broadband subscribers, 1.96% in the number of fixed wireless broadband subscribers and the highest—4.21% in the number of mobile broadband subscribers.

Broadband as per TRAI is data connection that has a minimum speed of 512 KBPS. In 2014, TRAI altered its definition and changed the minimum speed to 256 KBPS.

Decrease in wireline services

Apart from the increase in popular segments, there has been a decrease in the use of wireline services because of the increasing trend of wireless technology. The number of users declined by 0.44% as there were 26.27 million users in May 2015 and 26.15 million users, a month later. In urban areas, wireline users including those for Tikona Broadband were 81.27% in June, this year while the rest were from rural areas.

Broadband Companies to Benefit from Digital India

The digital revolution is touching all parts of the globe. We are witnessing digital transformation in different sections of the society. This transformation is majorly impacting industries and societies in India, too.

Digital India

The government’s ‘Digital India’ initiative is giving a greater push to the digital revolution. The program opens up a million opportunities for development in the Information Technology (IT) sector and businesses will need to adopt digitization to survive the ever growing competition in this arena.  Through Digital India program, the government aims to bridge the gap between citizens and the government. The government wants to improve its service through the use of technology. It has facilitated money transfers and mobile banking through Jan Dhan Yojana. It also offers subsidies with the support of technology.

The Internet in varied sectors

The penetration of the internet in Indian companies had been low. But the past few months are showing a different trend. Organizations from varied sectors are embracing broadband services.

For companies offering broadband services, Digital India brings in a lot of scope of business. There is development needed to establish internet infrastructure, provide real-time solutions, set up the payment systems, etc. With the facilities, companies also need to develop and strengthen cyber security. With online banking and transactions on the rise, the risk of fraudulent activities and data loss increases. Having a secured network will thus be essential.

In the healthcare sector, there is considerable potential for technology, especially in areas like telemedicine and remote health. The ‘Smart Cities’ project under Digital India is another big area of opportunity. Setting up the framework, offering online services to government departments, and providing various services to citizens are the important sections of the program.

Once the companies embark upon these steps, there are newer technologies waiting for them. Upcoming technologies such as 3D printing, artificial intelligence, robotics, etc. will create a huge platform to prepare the country for such trends.

Make in India

Associated with the Digital India initiative is the ‘Make in India’ program. The government is stressing upon devices being manufactured locally. This will help digitization realize a brighter future. Some of the initial results of the program have been positive. The electronics manufacturing giant, Foxconn has announced an investment of USD 5 billion in Maharashtra. Besides, Redmi is also setting up its new plant in Andhra Pradesh. These steps will decrease the overall costs of devices and thus boost the consumption of the internet and internet-based services.

The government will have to ease policies to make its ambitious project successful. It will have to build a friendly environment for companies. With a little support, the broadband companies, which are bombarded with opportunities, will take the Digital India program to a greater height.

4G LTE to Change the Face of India

4G is the latest technological trend in India. It has revolutionized the market in China and is all set to do the same in India. According to Cisco, mobile traffic per connected device in India will increase to 1.1 GB per month in 2018 from 60 MB in 2013.

Many companies are embarking upon TD-LTE (Long Term Evolution) services. LTE has introduced access to newer spectrum bands in the market. Wireless connections will be popularized. Besides, digital usage will also increase significantly.

Credit Suisse reports that LTE services will take at least two years to boom in India as the current infrastructure is poor. Besides, mobile devices are also not available at affordable rates for the masses.

The newer names in the 4G market may give a stiff competition to the existing telecom operators. A new entrant will impact the existing companies. It will lead to decreased revenues, dropped margins, expensive spectrum bands and increasing capex. All of these factors will affect the business of the companies.

LTE is Super-Fast!

LTE stands for Long Term Evolution and it’s the next phase in wireless broadband in terms of speed. Simply put 4G LTE is just like 3G but is faster. The key thing to note is that 4G has an incredible amount of potential for businesses as well as education. With incredible speeds, businesses can expect to have greater reliability as far as video conferencing, file transfers, and monetary transactions. In India, education has taken a quantum leap with the availability of internet. With LTE networks, online learning, MOOC’s and other aspects related to education can truly break down the urban-rural divide and bring people closer than ever before.

Tikona popularizing LTE services

Tikona Digital Networks (TDN), a leading broadband service provider in India, had announced that it will roll out its 4G services only after it is fully prepared for the market. TDN will be offering LTE devices of Sequans Communications across the country. Telenet Systems is the designer of the LTE Customer Premises Equipment (CPE).

The CPE is created to serve subscribers in multi-dwelling units. Users will enjoy high-speed connectivity and many enhanced services from 4G LTE. The LTE technology used inside the new Telenet Systems CPE is Sequans Mont Blanc LTE chipset platform, which will provide efficient performance results.

Sequans Communications is a 4G chipmaker. It excels in offering single-mode LTE chipset solutions to wireless device makers across the globe. Its LTE chipsets offer superior performance at the best rates.

“The CPE is designed to serve customers in multi-dwelling units who will now have access to robust high speed internet service and other advanced services enabled by 4G LTE.”
