Tikona to Launch 4G Services in 30 Cities in 2016

Mumbai-based Indian Internet Service Provider (ISP), Tikona Digital Networks, is preparing to roll out its 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) services in 30 cities of the country. The company aims to launch the services during the first half of 2016. The company holds 20 MHz of 4G spectrum in Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh East, Uttar Pradesh West, and Rajasthan circles.

Plans of Tikona

Tikona launched a pilot project of its 4G Home Broadband Service in Varanasi in October 2015. It focuses on homes and small offices for its services. Tikona has made an investment of INR 20 crores to cater to over half a lakh households in the city.

Tikona is keen on providing services to more users, with its customer-base absorbing around 1,200 new users each month. This is around 2.5% of the monthly market share, revealed Heramb Ranade, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Tikona. After the marketing campaign, the company expects to witness an increase in its customer base. Attractive Tikona internet plans will help the company to achieve this goal. Ranade said, “With the campaign, this number should double, if not more. We can sustain it for at least two quarters.”

Tikona has increased its customer base from 2 lakhs to 3 lakhs in the past year. “We are clocking annualized exit revenue in the region of INR 3.5 billion”, Ranade added.

Tikona Broadband will be expanded to 5 circles in the initial period of 2016, after the company goes through the feedback from the Varanasi project. This will help Tikona provide flawless services, as it expands and begins its network rollout.

The company is planning to offer complete coverage with Tikona 4G in cities and towns where it will deploy its services. Tikona’s product will feature 10 Mbps connections and this will be 5 to 10 times higher than the existing Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)/3G based products. More such plans can be viewed on their new dedicated website, tikona4g.in.

Tikona’s Associations

Tikona has chosen Chinese company, Zhongxing Telecommunications Equipment (ZTE) Corporation, for the deployment of Time-Division (TD) LTE equipment in Tikona’s circles. This will let Tikona establish a strong broadband network.

As per the deal, ZTE will be supplying TD-LTE switching and radio equipment in the circles where Tikona holds 4G LTE licenses. It already supplies the equipment in Varanasi and other cities. Outdoor LTE Customer-Premises Equipment (CPE) will be supplied by Telenet Systems, using Sequans chipset.

Last year in November, Tikona had raised USD 4.5 crores in a new round of funding. The highest investment of 2.5 crores was from International Finance Corporation (IFC). The remaining 2 crores came from funds managed by Oak Investment partners, L&T Infrastructure Finance, Goldman Sachs Asset Management, and Everstone Capital.

Tikona to Launch its 4G Services in 2016

High-speed internet has touched the lives of several users. The latest fad entering the Indian telecom market is the Fourth Generation (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology.

Tikona’s 4G Service

In keeping with these trends, Tikona Digital Networks, one of the leading wireless broadband internet service providers has planned to roll out its 4G services in the following year. The company has decided to cover 30 cities across its five circles by June 2016.

The Mumbai-based company is already conducting a commercial pilot project in Varanasi. It plans to offer complete coverage in areas where it is setting up its network. The company is building high-speed internet services for home as well as office users.

Tikona’s Chief Marketing Officer, Heramb Ranade, stated that the company has rolled out a 10 Mbps product. This product offers speeds that are five to ten times more than the products currently available in the market, which are based on Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or Third Generation (3G).

Ranade revealed that the company will offer high-speed data connectivity to users at just 20% of current 3G service prices. Through such endeavors, the company aims to provide a superior user experience and greater satisfaction to consumers. Multi-device users will be highly benefitted. Besides, Tikona will maintain the pricing advantage to attract more and more customers.

Tikona’s Preparations for 4G

Initiated in 2008, Tikona serves 25 cities and 2.75 lakh customers across the country. This includes 10,000 small businesses. The company is known to have established some of the biggest networks in the country for businesses, mobile, Direct-to-Home (DTH), and broadband services.

Tikona had bought 20 MHz of a 4G spectrum in five important regions in the 2010 spectrum sale. The five regions are Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh (East), Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh (West). The spectrum cost the company around INR 1,058 crore.

Ranade feels that these regions are relatively unexplored, as they only had Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) operating there. He stressed that Tikona is the only viable alternative for users, as its product is better and it provides enhanced data usage at affordable rates.

Tikona is investing a huge chunk for establishing the network, securing customer premise equipment, and for operational costs. It has partnered with Chinese company, Zhongxing Telecommunication Equipment (ZTE) Corporation for end-to-end deployment of Time Division (TD) LTE equipment in all of its regions. As per the agreement between the two companies, ZTE will supply TD-LTE switching and radio equipment, in the regions where Tikona holds the 4G license. This will help the internet service provider to establish its high-speed broadband network.

4G: The Next Big Wave in Internet Connectivity

Conventionally, wired Internet connections have always offered better speeds while wireless services were more versatile and offered more convenience. As service providers like Tikona start offering 4G services, even those using wireless technology to surf the Internet can enjoy high speeds and improved reliability along with the convenience and flexibility of wireless surfing.

While 2G services shared the spectrum used to transfer voice data, 3G services allowed users to enjoy relatively faster Internet access even when using the phone. 4G services takes this a step further and offers download and upload speeds that are at least five times faster than 3G solutions.

Comparing 4G with 3G

In real life, an individual using 4G services in the real world can download files at around 10 to 20 Mbps with speeds reaching 40 Mbps under ideal conditions. This means you can download videos, images, and other files and enjoy a smoother and more reliable surfing experience even when you are on the move. The benefits of 4G services include:

  1. High-speed Internet access in your pocket with a 4G-enabled smart phone.
  2. Faster downloads, better quality video calls, and better value for money
  3. Better availability of services without any service disruptions or network issues
  4. Easier sharing of 4G speeds with multiple devices through wireless routers and dongles

Emphasis on Rural and Urban Markets

Internet and Mobile Association of India’s 2014 report states that Internet services are growing faster in rural India as compared to urban centers. This is why service providers like Tikona are investing in expensive 4G spectrum and the latest equipment and technologies to provide improved quality services for residents of cities as well as rural areas.

Offering high-speed Internet services to more than 225,000 homes in 25 Indian cities, Tikona’s 4G services will make it easier for Indians to access communication, commerce, either one ends, healthcare, and job opportunities on the Internet.

With a reputation of relying on innovative and creative strategies to facilitate better and more reliable access to Internet, Tikona is in a position to offer 4G services to 28% of the country’s population spread over five telecom circles. Apart from obvious benefits like higher speeds, Tikona users will enjoy additional benefits from features like Try before you buy and flexible and innovative Fair Usage Policies.
